This class will introduce young artists to a variety of mediums and materials in a studio atmosphere of play.  Over the 6-week class we will explore drawing, painting and handbuilding in clay  while focusing on creativity and making artistic choices.   Bring a paint shirt.  Beginning and continuing students welcomed.
 
 

Making Cultural Connections in Art:  Using tools, techniques and processes in a variety of mediums, students will gain an understanding of the visual arts in relation to history and cultures.

 

Weeks 1 & 2 –Mimbres in New Mexico

 Project:  Clay bowl using the slab-method of handbuilding and adding designs/glazing

Weeks 3 & 4 – Australian Aboriginal Designs

Project:  2-D painting incorporating flora & fauna in tempera paint

Week 5 & 6 –  Across the Atlantic and Pacific  

Project:  2-D Cut paper designs inspired by African, Asian, and European cultures
