More Information About the 2016 Young Artists Exhibition
About the Exhibition
For the fifth year, artists ages 18 and under were invited to exhibit their work at the Young Artists Exhibition at Kirkland Summerfest. The Young Artists Exhibition is a two-day art show that took place on August 12th and 13th, 2016, during the city-wide Kirkland Summerfest celebration held at Kirkland Marina Park.
The 2016 Young Artists Exhibition was co-presented by Kirkland Arts Center and the Kirkland Cultural Arts Commission (KCAC). The goal of the exhibition is to feature the talent and individual expression of young artists in the area, nurturing in them a love of art at a young age.
KAC and KCAC were excited to receive 70 submissions this year from young artists aged 4 to 15. All entries were displayed in the exhibit, and every artist received a participation ribbon for contributing to the show.
In addition to the participation ribbons, prizes were awarded to outstanding entries in different age groups: 5 and under, 6-9, 10-13, and 14-18. Judges selected one Judge’s Choice winner and three Committee Choice winners in each age group. The four Judge’s Choice winners received prizes donated by An Artful Touch, Frog Legs Culinary Academy, and Kirkland Arts Center.
This is a wonderful opportunity for children to experience the excitement of seeing their work on display for others to enjoy. We encourage all young people to check back next summer to participate in the 2017 Young Artists Exhibition!
About the Judges
Artwork was judged on interpretation of the theme, originality, creativity, and innovative use of materials. The 2016 theme was “My favorite place in the Pacific Northwest.”
Our 2016 judges were:
