Artist’s Statement

“I believe in representational art for its accessibility and in abstract art for its communication of the unseen. Art should be mysterious so viewers have an opportunity to bring individual meaning. Drawing is a meditation. Painting from life keeps art fresh, spontaneous and personal. I strive to present an interesting subject in a dramatic value pattern with lively line, texture and rich color.”

About the Artist

The child of a teacher and a ceramics engineer, Deborah Kraft Knetzger grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, drawing and painting from an early age. After receiving a B.S. in Fine Art from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she moved to Los Angeles where she worked in fashion illustration and hand-painted fabrics for interiors.

Deborah and her designer/musician husband moved to the Pacific Northwest where they raised two children. Their son is a video game designer and car expert in Kirkland, Washington, and their daughter is a graphic novelist recently returned to Seattle after several years in New York City. Two cats make their home with the family.

Over the years Deborah has taught art classes both as a volunteer and paid instructor. She now devotes most of her time to creating art, working mainly in watercolor, oils and drawing media. Her other interests are fiber arts and collage. Deborah?s favorite subjects are plein air landscapes, animals, human figures and flowers and plants. She also enjoys gardening, theater, reading, travel, yoga, biking and hiking.
