PUBLIC OUTREACH

Art Opens Doors invites underserved youths whose parents are registered with Hopelink to participate in two 6-week art classes, two one-week summer art camps and four family workshops. KAC works to make sure that there are no boundaries to arts education, providing quality arts instruction, transportation, food, and art supplies that students can take home to continue in their creative pursuits. Art Opens Doors is just one of our public outreach programs. KAC also provides scholarships to students who cannot afford our low class fees. Most recently, KAC has partnered with Circle of Friends to provide scholarships to the mentally disabled.

BUILDING PROJECTS

The Community and Artistic Space project aims to refurbish currently unused or under-utilized areas of the facilities in order to improve access to programming and resources for local artists, students, members, and visitors. Restoration of the building’s grand staircase will create a central entrance point for the public and will allow for site-specific artistic installation. Redesign and renovations to the KAC kitchen will create a central, functional community space for artists, students, faculty, members and visitors. This is the first phase of a multi-phase improvement project to make much-needed repairs and renovations to the Peter Kirk Building.

Executive Director Christopher Shainin, Board President Carol Belval, and
Board Vice President Michele
Parsons explain the project plan.

EXHIBITIONS

Each year, KAC presents 8-10 contemporary art exhibits in our critically acclaimed gallery and between 12-20 satellite exhibits across the Eastside in locations such as City Hall, and the Kirkland Library. KAC aims to foster the exhibition of new work by contemporary artists across the region, acting as an incubator for artists’ and curators’ ideas to develop.

In this video, KAC Exhibitions Director, Cable Griffith visits the studio of Whiting Tennis to discuss the evolution of the artist’s ideas. The final work is on view as part of the exhibition, Dimensional Invention, at Kirkland Arts Center until June 3rd.
